The 17th annual Mid-America Regional Conference (MARC), a joint production from the Chicago/Midwest, Detroit, Minnesota, Ohio and West Michigan Chapters was hosted for the first time in Grand Rapids, Michigan April 7-9th. The conference drew over 200 attendees and was sponsored by Bridge Business Credit, DHW, Harney Partners, Liquid Asset Partners, and Oxford Commercial Finance. The event was led Co-Chairs Chantal Eikey from Rehmann, Heather Rachel from HSR Finance, John Trendell from Pathward, and David Levy from Summit Investment Management and Keen-Summit Capital Partners.

Highlighting the host city’s reputation for being one of the leading destinations for craft beer, the program’s theme was “Crafting a Grand Turnaround” and kicked off with a capacity crowd at the legendary Founder’s Brewing Company for an opening night cocktail party the evening of Sunday, April 7th, which was followed by a Keynote Presentation by Andy Winkel, Founder’s former CFO and COO.

The Breakfast Keynote presentation was led by Barbara Birdsong, a 32-year veteran of criminal Investigations involving fraud, money laundering, and Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) for the IRS. Birdsong also served at the U.S. Marshals Service for 14 years, eight of which she served as the U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Michigan. An additional Keynote presentation featured Mike Jandernoa, former President/CEO of Perrigo Company being interviewed by Bill Melvin of Liquid Asset Partners. Jandernoa spoke about the growth of the company’s business manufacturing and distributing over-the-counter and generic prescription pharmaceuticals. Other programs included panels on Receivership, Urban Renewal, and Lender Workouts.

A program highlight was collectively experiencing the eclipse on the Grand River!  Next year’s MARC is in Chicago, hope to see you there.
