A Summer of Service in 2024

By VP of Communications, Kobus van der Zel, CTP, MorrisAnderson and Associates, Ltd.

With another quarter behind us, it’s my pleasure to bring you the second TMA Chicago/Midwest newsletter of 2024. Staying on the “Success Through Service” theme from our chapter President, Jack O’Connor, we will have a look at what our communications and awards committees have accomplished so far.

Our Communications committee, which includes Heidi Hockberger, Mark Silverman, and Michael Boyer, took the concept of a “roaming photo booth” and put it into practice at multiple events – at both the Martini event as well as the golf outing. It was a fun new way to interact with attendees and to get the pictures automatically delivered to your phone. This committee is also using the “hot takes” from the pictures taken to be utilized on our LinkedIn and social media. Finally, they are thinking hard about how to streamline the traditional article writing process which is still very important to communicate all the great work done by our chapter at the various events.

The awards committee has also been hard at work on the “Success Through Service” theme. Jim Trankina and Kevin Morse have added a new award category this year – the distressed real estate transaction/turnaround category – to serve and recognize those professionals among us that worked hard to make a difference in a very depressed commercial real estate market. A very good idea at the right time!

The award submission process is now well underway, and as a chapter we can continue to be proud of the fact that we are one of the only TMA chapters with our own awards process – and sending the message to other chapters that we care deeply that the best quality of work in our chapter gets recognized on our biggest stage every year – the Executive Speaker Forum in November.

This year the honorary guest of our ESF/Premier event is the American sportscaster, Bob Costas. What a better way to continue the legacy of this great event – now even more popular than before with the added sports angle.

Jack is right – think of how you can increase your success by being of service this summer.
