VP Corner Q1 2025

    Turnaround Management Association: “Listen Up”!

Hey there, restructuring rockstars! If you’ve ever found yourself singing “Wonderwall” while navigating the twists and turns of corporate restructuring, you’re in the right place. With the Oasis reunion tour on the horizon (if the brothers can get along for long enough…) I thought that, today is gonna be the day that they’re gonna throw it back to you.  How can YOU take your career in your hands.  The Turnaround Management Association (TMA) has been the “Champagne Supernova” of my career since day one, providing the ultimate foundation for my professional network.

I’m beyond thrilled to announce that I’m stepping into the role of VP of Communications for the TMA Chicago/Midwest chapter. Cue “Supersonic” because we’re ready to take this year by storm!

David Levy – “Go Let it Out”

One of the first people I truly connected with in this amazing group is our chapter President, David Levy. David is like the Yoda of restructuring – wise, experienced, and always ready to drop some serious knowledge. Following in his tradition, he’s set our theme as “Make it Rain!” This is exactly what the TMA Chicago/Midwest chapter is all about – connecting, learning, and finding ways to plug into deals.

    Networking “Don’t Go Away”

Remember the days of mix-CDs and dial-up internet? Networking back then was all about face-to-face connections and genuine interactions.  While we now connect in many ways – both in person and online, the TMA has adapted and allowed its members to “Roll with It.”  The TMA allows professionals from all walks of restructuring life to connect, learn, and grow together. The number of referrals I’ve sent out to folks I’ve connected with through the TMA is too many to count. “Some Might Say” this is the most important piece of the TMA.

    How to Make It Rain

So, how are you going to spend this year “Making it Rain”? It’s all about unselfish networking. What do I mean by that? Not just looking to get something out of every situation. It’s easier and more authentic to give to others than to simply ask others to give to you. Think of it as your own personal way to “Live Forever.”

One way you can give to the TMA is through your thought leadership. This could be big – writing an article – or small – posting content on LinkedIn supporting the chapter. No matter how you choose to give back, it will help the chapter, your peers, and friends in the organization, and give you a platform from which to “Make it Rain.”

    Shout-Out to the Dream Team

I remain incredibly impressed by the strength of this organization, and we couldn’t do it without our key committee members on the Communications Committee: Michael Boyer and Alex Porter – real “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star[s]”.

    “Don’t Look Back in Anger”

So, what will you do this year to “Make It Rain”? All the roads that lead you there are winding – but take the time, reach out to your fellow TMA members, make a connection, and make your time with the TMA valuable.

    Let’s make it rain, TMA!
